Since our inception, TAILORED ATHLETE has attracted thousands of Athletes from all walks of life with one continuing passion: a love for physical development and a positive mindset. Our journey is your journey, and we want to share the stories of our Athletes amongst our community for the following reasons...
Last month we heard from Tom Brazier, Entrepreneur and WBFF Coach of the Year 2016. This months Athlete is Jason Burrill; who first purchased from us in 2018! Not only is he one of the nicest people we've had the pleasure of encountering, but he also has a very unique life story which we were honoured to learn more about...
Jason Burrill is probably most well known for being an actor, stunt/body double and TV personality. He’s starred in films such as Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and James Bond - Spectre, as well as winning Celebrity Big Brother in 2016. Despite this, Jason refers to himself as “a very private person, who much prefers the quiet life”. He is also a serial property developer, having owned over 50 properties throughout his self-taught career. At 6ft 4 inches, finding clothes to fit his frame has always been an issue and, like many of you, discovering TAILORED ATHLETE has been a revelation. We sat down to learn a little more about the man who once grappled Daniel Craig.
When reflecting on his career, Jason attributes his perceived successes as a series of “happy coincidences”. But when discussing his entrepreneurial ventures, he is quick to point out how much work has been involved. Growing up, Jason wanted to be a policeman, but decided to work in a bank instead because he “liked money”. However, this only lasted 6 months as he eventually got “jealous of looking after other people's money and wanted to make his own”. From this, he started buying and selling cars as his first entrepreneurial venture. It was also around this time he started to fall in love with conditioning and fitness, having always been relatively sporty due to his large build. As he began to apply extreme self-discipline to both his physique and a newfound passion for property development, he also happened to fall into acting.

“I was in the changing room of my gym when an older gentleman came over to tell me he’d been watching me the past two years and that I was in the best shape he’d seen me. I awkwardly said thank you whilst slowly putting my towel around my waist, but we then went on to have a decent chat and it turns out he was a pretty well-known actor. I'd recently been asked to be a best man and had been bricking myself about the speech, so we agreed that I would help him with his training and he’d help me with my public speaking. We became very good friends and eventually, he introduced me to an agent”

With no real desire to pursue acting as a profession, Jason continued to channel his energy into property development and admits to having learnt on the go, attributing both his successes and failures to utilising past experiences. The genuine love he has for the work he does on a day to day basis is evident, citing the process of creation as his real passion: the ability to “buy a piece of land, take an idea or a concept and turn it into reality from scratch. That's the fun bit for me”. he also continued with acting as a hobby, picking up occasional jobs, when one day a call from Marvel studios came.
“I never answer withhold calls, however on this particular day I did. They [Marvel Studios] had seen a picture of me on social media where someone said I’d resembled WWE star Dave Bautista and wanted to invite me to be his body double for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Movie. At first, I thought it was a wind-up, but they quickly convinced me it wasn’t as they’d been trying to reach me for a while (So always answer your withheld calls!); they were casting that very same day, so I drove 2 hours to Pinewood Studios, UK and met the team. I didn’t realise Dave Batista was there but within a very short period we became good pals; so I got the role and it just sort of snowballed from there”
Reflecting on this happy coincidence, Jason is a firm believer in only controlling what is within your reach, and letting go of what isn’t. His initial experience with acting consisted of him sending his CV to over 100 casting agents - four of whom replied with a no, with the rest not even responding. And whilst the allure of bright lights and stardom may have been a big enough of an appeal for some people to keep trying, Jason only saw acting as a hobby so he wasn’t discouraged. He knew his time was better spent honing his craft and developing knowledge of property, so when and if opportunities came, they were nothing more than pleasant experiences he could afford to enjoy.

One such opportunity came in the shape of Celebrity Big Brother 2016 which Jason went on to win, beating 16 other contestants. A relatively private individual, he had turned down previous offers, yet curiosity got the better of him and he saw this as just another experience. Reflecting on the situation, there is a fondness in his tone; whilst he doesn’t consider it to be one of the great milestones of his career, it has created a new tangent of Jason’s life that has brought him immense fulfilment - the extensive charity work he has been able to carry out since winning. Through Celebrity Golf Days, to Charity Football Matches with footballing legends he once looked up to but is now fortunate enough to call friends, Jason is keen to express his gratitude at these opportunities in the hope it inspires others to do the same.

Looking at his life now, Jason has amassed a portfolio consisting of over 50 properties, 5 clinics/salons, and a side project of buying and selling supercars over an 18-year career. He now lives on the beach front and continues to train every day, whether that's at his gym, paddleboarding, or cycling. This completely self-taught entrepreneur attributes his success very much to work ethic, drive, determination and the ability to withstand distractions.
Incorporating TAILORED ATHLETE into his lifestyle has been a revelation, as finding formalwear that allows for a 50-inch chest and 32-inch waist has previously been impossible. It's as much about feeling good as it is looking good.
“When I’ve brought shirts in the past, it was a case of if you had a big chest, you must have a big belly, so everything just looked overly baggy. TA’s cut is second to none for anyone who trains or has an athletic build; when I find something I like, I appreciate it and that's why I’m happy to shop with you guys time and time again.”
His ambitions are now geared towards giving back, be it through his continuous charity work (he is an ambassador to 5 charities) or his upcoming podcast where he aims to use his expertise to give a ‘no-nonsense’ insight to property development, providing all the guidance to young entrepreneurs he wishes he had when starting. It is this drive that motivates him and exemplifies his mantra to “just be better every day than you were yesterday”. He leaves us with some final words of wisdom:
